The storyline centers on an army of villainous cybernetic rats that have invaded the world, leaving cats to take back their territory one grid at a time. Players control one of several distinct feline characters navigating a bounded playfield. The core mechanic requires players to carve out lines across the grid to section off portions of the map. Successfully enclosing an area traps any rats caught within those bounds, causing them to explode and clear the board.
As players progress through dozens of increasingly challenging stages across varied global environments, they must dodge enemy rats, avoid environmental hazards, and utilize power-ups that grant speed boosts, weapons, or temporary invincibility. Alongside the single-player campaign, Rat Attack! features a robust local multiplayer mode supporting up to four players simultaneously, turning territory-claiming strategy into a chaotic battle for survival.
