Released during the early golden age of the Nintendo 64, Tetrisphere takes the core thematic concepts of matching and clearing pieces and turns them entirely on their head. Instead of dealing with flat 2D playfields, the action takes place across a fully rotatable, multi-layered sphere made of interlocking geometric blocks.
Players control a hovering cursor and select, slide, or drop different block shapes onto matching tiles to dissolve layers. The ultimate goal in the single-player "Rescue" mode is to peel away the outer shells to uncover and liberate the trapped robotic characters hidden at the center. The game also includes a challenging "Puzzle" mode with pre-set configurations and a fast-paced multiplayer mode that pits friends against each other in head-to-head clearing battles. Backed by an incredible techno-ambient soundtrack by Neil Voss, it remains a cult-classic favorite for puzzle enthusiasts.
